Best Time to Visit
October – April
RAK's mountain location means it is slightly cooler than coastal cities year-round. Winter and spring are perfect for outdoor activities — the mountains can be pleasantly cool (8–15°C at the summit in January). Summer is hot but the mountains remain more bearable than the coast.
Getting Around
RAK is about 100 km north of Dubai — roughly 75–90 minutes by car via the E11 or E311. There is no public transport of note within RAK; a rental car or taxi is essential. Our mountain safari tour includes pickup from RAK hotels and a central RAK city meeting point.
Traveller Tips
- 1A jacket or fleece is essential for Jebel Jais year-round — the summit is significantly cooler than sea level.
- 2The Jebel Jais mountain road closes in fog, strong wind, and rain. Check conditions before heading up.
- 3Book the zipline well in advance during weekends and UAE school holidays.
- 4RAK has a quieter, more conservative atmosphere than Dubai — dress modestly outside of resort areas.
- 5Self-driving into the mountains is possible but 4x4 vehicles are strongly recommended for wadi routes.
